Clinical Services Programme
The IAA provides specialised clinical services to older clients at in-patient, out-patient and community-based facilities. The facilities offer sites for activities of the Education Programme and Research Programme.
The Geriatrics Out-patients Clinic at Groote Schuur Hospital offers assessment and management of health conditions upon clinical referral. The clinic is operated on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
The UCT/GSH Memory Clinic at Groote Schuur Hospital offers out-patient comprehensive assessment and counselling for persons with dementia and their carers. The clinic is operated on Wednesday mornings.
The Neurology/Geriatrics Stroke Unit at Groote Schuur Hospital offers in-patient, multidisciplinary acute care, rehabilitation and education for patients with acute stroke and their carers.
The Stroke Unit at GF Jooste and Victoria Hospital offer inpatient multi-disciplinary care for acute stroke, which includes acute medical care, rehabilitation, and education for patients and carers.
Rehoboth Age Exchange is an NGO site in Hanover Park where the Division of Geriatric Medicine conducts a clinic on the first Monday of each month.
The Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre in Lentegeur has IAA geriatricians conduct a monthly ward round on the last Monday of the month. The outreach service aims to maximise the rehabilitation potential of older clients.
